Di fronte al genocidio in corso a Gaza e agli attacchi contro la missione umanitaria della Global Sumud Flotilla i luoghi del sapere non possono restare in silenzio.

Come precari* della ricerca, aderiamo alle giornate di sciopero generale del 19 e 22 settembre, per portare dentro gli atenei la voce di chi vuole una ricerca al servizio della libertà dei popoli, non degli oppressori.

Lo sappiamo bene: come dottorand* e assegnist* non godiamo di un vero diritto di sciopero, perché il nostro lavoro non è adeguatamente riconosciuto né tutelato. Ma proprio per questo la nostra astensione dal lavoro e le forme creative di mobilitazione che possiamo costruire assumono ancora più valore: servono a rompere il silenzio, a esprimere solidarietà al popolo palestinese e a rivendicare un’università impegnata per la pace.

I diritti si conquistano esercitandoli: anche il diritto di sciopero si costruisce attraverso lo sciopero. Per questo, come ADI, invitiamo tutt* a unirsi alle giornate di protesta al fianco dell* lavorator* di tutta Italia e a ribadire, insieme, che la ricerca sta con la Palestina. Per rendere concreta la partecipazione della nostra categoria, proponiamo la nostra cassetta degli attrezzi, fatta di pratiche e gesti collettivi che ci permettano di vivere davvero queste giornate di sciopero.

Utilizzo di una risposta automatica per i messaggi di posta elettronica

Le email rappresentano non solo una forma di comunicazione per noi, ma una vero e proprio mezzo di lavoro e di produzione. Interromperne l'uso per un giorno limita le mansioni che possono esserci assegnate e, grazie a una risposta automatica (che alleghiamo alla fine del documento), comunica le ragioni della nostra protesta, invitando contemporanemente alla solidarietà e alla partecipazione.

Partecipazione alle proteste nelle città italiane

Nelle giornate del 19 e 22 settembre non ci sarà un’unica manifestazione nazionale, ma decine di proteste e mobilitazioni diffuse in molte città italiane. ADI, con le sue sedi locali, parteciperà attivamente, nella convinzione che di fronte a condotte criminali e genocidarie non possano esserci né divisioni né silenzi.

Invitiamo tutt* a controllare le iniziative sul proprio territorio e la presenza di una sede ADI. Se nella tua città non ci fosse un gruppo organizzato di dottorand* e assegnist*, partecipa comunque: unisciti alle piazze convocate dalle sigle sindacali promotrici dello sciopero e da tutte le realtà, dentro e fuori l’università, che esprimono solidarietà e sostegno al popolo palestinese.

Astensione dal lavoro

La nostra astensione dal lavoro non è tutelata come quella dell* lavorator* dipendenti, ma non significa che sia impossibile!

Invitiamo quindi a comunicare con anticipo a relator*/supervisor* o principal investigators la propria indisponibilità al lavoro il 19 e il 22 settembre, spiegandone le motivazioni politiche. La stessa comunicazione può essere inoltrata agli uffici del personale del dipartimento o dell’ateneo: si tratta di un gesto dimostrativo, che contribuisce a dare visibilità allo sciopero e incrementare la percentuale di adesione, anche se in alcuni casi sono state effettuate trattenute stipendiali. Un simile esito, di dubbia legittimità, non dovrebbe riguardare l’adesione allo sciopero del 19 settembre, ma — come mostrano esperienze recenti — potrebbe verificarsi in occasione della successiva mobilitazione del 22 settembre.

Un’altra modalità simbolica ma significativa consiste nel prenotare un posto in biblioteca o in sala studio e lasciarlo occupato con materiali informativi sullo sciopero (incluso questo documento), trasformando così anche gli spazi universitari in luoghi di sensibilizzazione.

Per molt* di noi sarà probabilmente la prima volta in sciopero, per altri no, vogliamo augurare a tutt* una buona giornata di protesta e ci mettiamo a disposizione per sostenere l’organizzazione delle iniziative sui territori, potete contattarci a: adi [dot] sportellodottorato [dot] it.

Comunicazione dell’adesione allo sciopero del 22 settembre

Solo per lo sciopero del 22 settembre, che rispetta il preavviso richiesto dalla legge per i servizi pubblici essenziali,  consigliamo a tutta la componente, sia dottorale che post-doc, di comunicare agli uffici la propria volontà formare di aderire allo sciopero. In alcuni casi questi potrebbero chiedervi di compilare un modulo per la registrazione formale dell’adesione. Questo permetterà di censire quanti di noi avranno scioperato e, in alcuni casi, di applicare la trattenuta stipendiale, come se fossimo lavoratori e lavoratrici dipendenti.

RISPOSTA AUTOMATICA EMAIL 

Nonostante la mia posizione da assegnista di ricerca/dottorand* non preveda un effettivo diritto allo sciopero, benché io sia nei fatti un dipendente dell’Università, oggi, 19 settembre 2025 aderisco allo Sciopero Generale, promosso per la nostra categoria dall’ADI e in generale da CGIL, sospendendo le mie attività lavorative per l’intera giornata e partecipando alle relative manifestazioni.

Incrocio le braccia perché voglio una ricerca al servizio della libertà dei popoli, non degli oppressori.

Nello scioperare difendo anche il diritto allo studio e l’istruzione pubblica per una società più giusta. Esprimo di conseguenza la mia solidarietà nei confronti del popolo palestinese per lo scolasticidio che sta subendo, con la devastazione di scuole e università e lo sterminio genocida di student*, docent* e lavorator* della conoscenza. Il nostro Paese e le nostre università sono complici delle politiche israeliane: pretendo un cambio di passo immediato a riguardo. 

Oggi sciopero per ribadire che ciò che succede oggi a Gaza avviene NON IN MIO NOME.

Faced with the ongoing genocide in Gaza and the attacks against the Global Sumud Flotilla humanitarian mission, places of knowledge cannot remain silent.

As precarious researchers, we are joining the general strike on September 19th and 22nd to bring to universities the voice of those who want research to serve the freedom of people, not oppressors.

We know this well: as doctoral students and research fellows, we do not enjoy a true right to strike because our work is not adequately recognized or protected. But precisely for this reason, our abstention from work and the creative forms of mobilization we can develop take on even more value: they serve to break the silence, express solidarity with the Palestinian people, and demand a university committed to peace.

Rights are earned by exercising them: even the right to strike is built through strikes. Therefore, as ADI, we invite everyone to join the days of protest alongside workers throughout Italy and to reaffirm, together, that research stands with Palestine. To make our category's participation concrete, we propose our toolbox, made up of collective practices and gestures that allow us to truly experience these days of strike action.

Use an automatic reply for emails

Emails are not just a form of communication for us, but a true means of work and production. Stopping their use for a day limits the tasks we can be assigned and, thanks to an automatic reply (which we attach at the end of the document), communicates the reasons for our protest, simultaneously inviting solidarity and participation.

Participation in protests in Italian cities

On September 19th and 22nd, there will not be a single national demonstration, but dozens of protests and mobilizations spread across many Italian cities. ADI, with its local chapters, will actively participate, in the belief that in the face of criminal and genocidal conduct, there can be neither division nor silence.

We invite everyone to check out the initiatives in their local area and the presence of an ADI chapter. If there isn't an organized group of doctoral students and research fellows in your city, participate anyway: join the demonstrations called by the unions promoting the strike and by all the organizations, inside and outside the university, expressing solidarity and support for the Palestinian people.

Skip from work

Our skipping work isn't protected like that of employees, but that doesn't mean it's impossible!

We therefore invite you to notify your supervisor/supervisor or principal investigators in advance of your unavailability for work on September 19th and 22nd, explaining the political reasons. This same notification can also be forwarded to the department or university personnel offices: this is a demonstrative gesture that helps raise the visibility of the strike and increase participation rates, even if in some cases, salary deductions have been made. Such an outcome, of questionable legitimacy, should not affect participation in the September 19th strike, but—as recent experiences show—it could occur during the subsequent mobilization on September 22nd.

Another symbolic but significant approach is to reserve a spot in the library or study room and leave it occupied with informational materials about the strike (including this document), thus transforming university spaces into places of awareness.

Notice of participation in the strike on September 22

For the strike on September 22 only, which complies with the notice period required by law for essential public services, we advise all doctoral and post-doctoral staff to inform the relevant offices of their intention to participate in the strike. In some cases, they may ask you to fill out a form to formally register your participation. This will allow them to count how many of us went on strike and, in some cases, to apply a salary deduction, as if we were employees.

AUTOMATIC EMAIL RESPONSE

Although my position as a research fellow/PhD student does not provide for an effective right to strike, even though I am effectively a university employee, today, September 19, 2025, I am joining the General Strike, promoted for our category by the ADI and the CGIL (Italian General Confederation of Labour) in general, suspending my work activities for the entire day and participating in the related demonstrations.

I am crossing my arms because I want research to serve the freedom of people, not oppressors.

In striking, I am also defending the right to education and public education for a more just society. I therefore express my solidarity with the Palestinian people for the scholastic murder they are suffering, with the devastation of schools and universities, and the genocidal extermination of students, teachers, and knowledge workers. Our country and our universities are complicit in Israeli policies: I demand an immediate change of pace in this regard.

Today, I am striking to reiterate the appeal: NOT IN MY NAME.
